Many people think of the Adirondacks as a place to visit in the summer when they can enjoy the lakes and the beautiful green scenery. Or, maybe as a place to visit in the middle of winter when the lakes are frozen and the ground is covered in snow, and you can enjoy the Adirondacks by snowmobile.
You may not realize it, but fall is an amazing time to visit. Things are a little quieter and more peaceful. The trees change to beautiful fiery reds, oranges, and yellows. Along with the amazing views, there are a lot of fun things happening here in autumn.
Here is just a sampling of the goings on:
Inlet Fall Festival
This annual craft fair takes place each year in Inlet's Fern Park. This year's festival will take place on September 15 and 16. More than fifty vendors will be there selling their goods including clothing, jewelry, rustic furniture, and more. There are also lots of great activities for kids like sand art, gem mining, and free face painting! There will also be fair entertainment, from live music to comedic acts and even a clown and balloon artist on Sunday!
Great Adirondack Moose Festival
Entering its 9th year in Indian Lake is the Great Adirondack Moose Festival. On September 22 and 23, there are two action packed days of events. Hop on stage at the Indian Lake Theater and deliver your best moose call, or maybe enter the "Count the Moose Scat" contest. Guided hikes will also be happening throughout the weekend. Check online for a schedule of events.
Also happening on September 22 at the Speculator Pavilion is the Historical Society's annual Apple Fest! Wander around and see what the vendors have for sale, pick up an apple pie for later, or a hot apple crisp for now! There will also be apple pressing demonstrations — sample some fresh made apple cider! Stop by from 10 a.m. - 4 p.m. and check it out.
Do you like German food? How about beer? Maybe a beautiful scenic chairlift ride? Then head to Speculator on September 30 to check out OAKtoberfest at Oak Mountain! This event is sponsored by Friends of the Lake Pleasant Library. Enjoy free entertainment and games for the kids.
Fall Fest
Adirondack Experience, the Museum on Blue Mountain Lake will once again host their Fall Fest in celebration of all things fall. On October 6, learn about apple pressing, take a wagon ride, and enjoy some live music by Rustic Riders Duo and Roy Hurd. Admission to Fall Fest is included with your pass to the museum.
Harvest Craft Fair
From 10 a.m. - 4 p.m. on October 6, you can head to the Long Lake town hall for their annual Harvest Craft Fair. Vendors will be on site selling their hand crafted goods.
Adirondack Kids Day
Head to Arrowhead Park in Inlet on October 6 for a day of fun for the whole family. Adirondack Kids Day is loaded with free family events like paddling, knot tying, face painting, horseback riding, and more. There will also be a fishing derby on 5th Lake for children up to age 12.
As you can see, we have a fall full of fun for you and the whole family. So take a scenic drive through the foliage, but don't forget to make your dining and lodging reservations.
