Attractions in the Adirondacks

Activities for the whole family

So much to see and do

In the Adirondacks, our biggest attraction of course is the Adirondacks – a vast, pristine playground of balsam forests, mountain peaks, and deep lakes offering unparalleled outdoor recreation. To help get as much activity in as possible, tours and excursions with local guides and adventurers are an extra fun way to experience the amazing Adirondack scenery.

Adirondack Great Camps

Here, in the heart of the central Adirondacks, where wilderness is the main attraction, we love to share our unique history. Historic Great Camps along the shores of Raquette Lake, itself a beauty, are best viewed from the water, aboard the stylish, comfortable W. W. Durant, a replica steamboat. The Durant's meals — brunch, dinner, and even moonlit dances — are a culinary treat. Pairing dessert with a gorgeous, sparkling sunset is one of the best ways to end a colorful day.

Another one of the region's unique Adirondack attractions is Great Camp Sagamore, the Adirondack retreat of one of the wealthiest men in early 20th America, now a National Historic Landmark. Sagamore offers overnight accommodations in storied Adirondack Great Camp luxury. Tours of the buildings and grounds, as well as special events are open to the general public throughout the year.

Arts and Culture

Hamilton County is proud to be the home of the famous Adirondack Experience, The Museum on Blue Mountain Lake, a beloved place to explore interactive exhibits, artwork, and buildings that celebrate the history that makes the Adirondacks a unique place to visit and live in.

Exploring our scenic historic towns and hamlets is a perfect way to discover the work of talented artisans and craftspeople, creators of distinctly Adirondack-inspired paintings, photographs, furniture, and more. Our shops, studios, and galleries are full of beautiful treasures.

Year round fun

Just because some attractions are closed in the winter, it doesn't mean the fun has to stop! Many places are now offering special virtual programming all year round! Check out our events page to find unique talks, workshops, and tours!
