Cary Lake and Fly Pond

Cary Lake and Fly Pond

This little used trail is the perfect spot to find some solitude away from the crowds. Visitors can hike, fish, snowshoe, or cross-country ski.

How to get there

From Inlet, travel south on Route 28 for 6.2 miles, then turn right onto Rondaxe Road. Travel just over 0.1 mile to the trailhead parking on the left. This is the same parking area for Bald Mountain, but the trail is on the opposite side of the road.

Key statistics

  • Distance: 1 mile round trip
  • Elevation gain: 160 feet

Hiking

This is a level path with few obstacles. It is less than one-mile to the lake and pond, which are right next to each other.

Fishing

Finding good casting room may be difficult, but the amount of fishing done here by visitors is very little and therefore the fish are plentiful. Look for brook trout and pumpkinseed sunfish.

Winter

The shared parking for Bald Mountain is plowed in the winter, but please do not park on the side of the road. This path makes for a good snowshoe or cross-country ski. Chances are you will find solitude here.
