Squaw Lake Fishing Spot

Squaw Lake Fishing Spot

The Moose River Plains is full of exciting adventures to be had; be sure you cast a line at Squaw Lake to see what you catch.

Getting there

From the intersection of Route 28 and Limekiln Road in Inlet, follow Limekiln Road and turn left on Moose River Plains Road. Take the second right on Otter Brook Road, which eventually turns into Indian River Road. Follow that to its end. The roads through the Moose River Plains are very rough, but can be driven in most cars with some care at slow speeds.

Fishing

To reach the shore you will have a 0.6 mile hike to the pond. The terrain is easy and well worth it for the decent brook trout fishing. This pond has outstanding shoreline fishing. Its rocky shores and open forest help make for a great experience catching brookies.

Boat access: The only boat access is by a 0.6 mile carry from the trailhead. The fishing from shore is just as good as from a boat, so the added effort to cast a line may or may not be worth it to you.

Fish species: Brook trout

Special regulations: Always follow New York state fishing regulations and be sure to pick up a NYS Freshwater Fishing Guide at your local outfitters or regional NYSDEC office.
