While it would require a long carry with a boat, the shoreline fishing here is nice and great for solitude.
Getting there
From the intersection of Route 28 and Route 30, follow Route 30 toward Speculator. Continue for 0.5 mile and turn left on Big Brook Road. After 6.6 miles there's a road with a steel bridge on the right. There is a trail marker located here, but no sign. Park here, Round Pond is 2.2 miles up this trail.
Fishing
Shoreline fishing is very good along the north shore. The trail follows the north shore, so access to it is excellent. Boat access would require a 2.2 mile long carry.
Insider tips:
- While the hike to Round Pond is long the fishing is very good, especially if you are in search of panfish.
- The panfish are of decent size and can be caught in abundance with just a hook and worm.
Fish species: panfish, bullhead, brown trout
Special regulations: Always follow state fishing regulations and be sure to pick up a NYS Freshwater Fishing Guide at your local outfitters or regional DEC office.
