Route 10 is a good place to bird and a favorite during the winter when there is a crossbill irruption. The West Branch Sacandaga River flows along this road near Avery’s Place where there is excellent birding habitat.

Birding

A meandering flatwater section of the West Branch of the Sacandaga River can be paddled from where Route 10 crosses the river near Chub Lake to the Shaker Place take-out. While in the area, visit the Piseco Airport where Eastern Bluebird and Savannah Sparrow occur along the runway.
